Louannec ( Breton Louaneg ) is a French commune with 3,068 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lannion and the canton of Perros-Guirec . The inhabitants are called Louannecains / Louannecaines .

geography

The municipality is located on the Atlantic coast , which in this section is called Côte de Granit Rose , around eight kilometers northeast of Lannion . The municipal area borders on the Bay of Perros (French: Anse de Perros ), which is strongly shaped by the tides and is often dry at low tide.

Transport links

The community is located away from national traffic routes. Only in the extreme northwest touches department road D788 which leads from Lannion to Perros-Guirec, the municipal area. Local transport links are provided by the D6 département road (Kermaria-Sulard to Perros-Guirec).

history

Finds from the Neolithic and the Celtic periods indicate early settlement. At the end of the 11th century, the lords of Coat-Guézennec built a small fortress. The place appears for the first time in 1160 as Loguanoc in a deed of ownership of the Johanniter. The parish is mentioned for the first time in 1292. The parish belonged to the Lannion district from 1793 to 1801. It has been part of the Lannion arrondissement since 1801 and a municipality in the Perros-Guirec canton since 1793.

language

Louannec belongs to the Basse-Bretagne / Breizh Izel . In this western part of Brittany, the majority of the population spoke Breton until the 1950s. In the 2014/2015 school year, 31 children (12.6% of the children enrolled in school) attended lessons in Breton. Nevertheless, Louannec belongs to the part of the municipalities in West Brittany that do not (yet) participate in Ya d'ar brezhoneg .
