Population development
In the seven years between 1793 and 1800, the population grew by leaps and bounds. Subsequently, it sank in 1806 to just over 500 people and stayed there until 1821. A second growth spurt took place between 1821 and 1851. In 1851 and 1856 the number of residents reached a historic high. By 1906 the population sank - but it always remained over 500 people. Between 1906 and 1921 there was a further decrease in population to just over 400 inhabitants. Until 1946, the population was able to keep above this mark. This was followed by a strong wave of emigration until 1982 (1946–1982: −44.9%). The last growth spurt so far took place between 1999 and 2008.
