Wolfgang Rittmann (born March 24, 1947 ; † January 29, 2016 in Bottrop ) was a German billiard official . From 1982 to 2002 he was President of the German Billiard Association and the German Billard Union and from 1988 until his death President of the Confédération Européenne de Billard .

Career

In February 1982 Rittmann succeeded Herbert Faßbender as President of the German Billiards Association . During his presidency, he ensured that several international carom tournaments were held in Germany. The three-cushion world championships in 1984 and 1996 and the European championship in 1989 took place in Germany. The three-cushion World Cup for national teams has also been held in Viersen since 1990 . After reunification , the member associations of the GDR billiards association DBSV were accepted into the DBB in December 1990 . After long negotiations, in June 1992 the German Billard Association and the German Pool Billard Association merged to form the German Billard Union , of which Rittmann became president. In 1999 the German Snooker Control Association was added to the DBU. In June 2002 Rittmann did not run for the election of the president. His successor was Karl Roßrucker . After the resignation of DBU President Manfred Pürner in February 2012, Rittmann was appointed by the Cologne District Court as an emergency director of the association facing bankruptcy. In this function and as an advisor to the interim board member elected later, he succeeded in preventing bankruptcy and restructuring the DBU.

From 1985 Rittmann was vice-president of the world collision association UMB . In 1988 he became president of the European collision association CEB . Four years later, in his functions, he played a key role in founding the World Confederation of Billiard Sports , the global association that encompasses all areas of billiards and of which he was a member of the board until his death. As chairman of the German Association of Non-Olympic Sports Associations, Rittmann was a member of the organizing committee of the 2005 World Games in Duisburg . Initiated by him, the European championships for all carom disciplines took place for the first time in 2013 in one place . Rittmann was President of the CEB until his death. At the age of 27, he was the longest serving German official in international sport.

On January 29, 2016, Wolfgang Rittmann died in Bottrop of complications from cancer .

Awards

In 1987 Rittmann was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon , and in 2005 the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. In 2001 he received an honorary certificate from the IOC . On November 20, 2010 he was elected the only honorary president of the German Billiard Union to date.

Rittmann was a full-time marketing manager at International Sport Promotion and Consulting . He was married and the father of two daughters.
