history

The community is mentioned for the first time in a document by the Knights Templar from 1182. In the Middle Ages, both the Knights Templar and the Johanniter owned property in what is now the municipality. In 1248 its owner, a crusader, is mentioned in a document. The parish of Coatréven was first mentioned in 1330. On October 27, 2013, the roof of the village church was destroyed by a hurricane.

Population development

The population hardly grew between 1793 and 1821. In the following decades until 1851 it rose significantly to over 1000 residents. It remained at this level - apart from an upward surge in 1866 - until 1872. This was followed within a century by a sustained gradual decline in the number of residents to the lowest point in 1982 (1872–1975: −64%). The population has been growing steadily since 1999 and is now just under 500 people (1999–2013: +32.1%).
