history
Several Roman roads led through today's municipality. In 1347 the place was the camp of the reserve troops of Charles de Blois in the fight against the English. They stayed in Castel-Dû. In 1839, a small part of the eastern municipality was ceded to the neighboring municipality of La Roche-Derrien.
Population development
The municipality was one of the more important places in the 18th century and already had more than 2000 inhabitants. With the exception of the 1800 and 1841 censuses, the number of residents up to 1886 was always over 2000. Then the decline began with high numbers of people leaving. The low point was not reached until 1982 (1886–1982: −56.3%). Since then the population has grown again considerably (1982–2013: +27.5%).
