Trégastel ( Tregastell in Breton ) is a French commune with 2,465 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Côtes-d'Armor department , in the Brittany region .
geography
Trégastel is located between Perros-Guirec and Pleumeur-Bodou , on the north coast of Brittany, the so-called Côte de Granit Rose . The coastline, where pink granite rocks and fine sandy beaches alternate, has a length of 17 kilometers.
history
There are several finds from the megalithic culture in the area .
The name of the municipality is probably derived from the components "Trève" and "Kastell". A “Trève” was understood to mean the annex of a parish, “Kastell” refers to a fortress established by the Romans to protect the coast.
Trégastel was initially part of the parish of Pleumeur-Bodou and only acquired the status of an independent parish in the 12th or 13th century. In 1375 Charles V gave Bryant de Lannion permission to build a tidal mill in the Trégastel area as a reward for his support in the War of the Breton Succession . This mill was replaced by another in 1764, which still exists on the border with Ploumanac'h .
