The Allée couverte and the Dolmen of Kerguntuil (also Kergüntuil ) are about two kilometers northeast of Tregastel , in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany in France . Also known as the Côte de Granit Rose (Coast of the Pink Granite ), this section was preferred during the Neolithic period for its natural resources. Sea salt was extracted from the beach . Fish , seaweed and seafood formed an additional source of nutrition for the arable farmers .

Allée couverte by Kerguntuil

Between 3000 and 2500 BC The late Neolithic Allées couvertes with side entrance were built in the region. In addition to Kerguntuil, the facilities of Crec'h Quillé , Mougau-Bihan near Commana, Prajou-Menhir , La Maison des Feins from Tressé , in the Ille-et-Vilaine department and the Allée couverte de la Bellée near Boury-en-Vexin in Département Oise through its petroglyphs .

The Allée couverte

The Allée couverte of Kerguntuil (coordinates: 48 ° 48 ′ 39.4 ″  N , 3 ° 31 ′ 6.7 ″  W ) was hit by the local population in 1939 after two Nordic collar bottles had been found. Then the four ceiling panels were re-laid in an unprofessional manner. The approximately nine meter long megalithic complex is made up of seven southern and six northern bearing stones and two granite end stones . Today's access is in the north, at the point of the missing bearing stone. J. L'Helgouach classified the monument as a complex with a side entrance and assumed that it was in the south.

An end chamber or antechamber, which is mandatory for the type of facilities in the region, is missing here. For this, Kerguntuil is characterized by reliefs of pairs of breasts. One plate shows six pairs, side by side, the next plate shows two pairs. Necklaces are shown below the breasts. This is believed to be hierograms of the Magna Mater , which u. a. is regarded as the goddess of the dead. This motif can also be found in the plants of Crec'h Quillé near Saint-Quay-Perros , La Maison des Feins by Tressé, Prajou-Menhir near Trébeurden and Mougau-Bihan near Commana .

The dolmen

The dolmen (coordinates: 48 ° 48 ′ 43.3 ″  N , 3 ° 31 ′ 8.8 ″  W ) has a particularly large capstone of 2.4 by 5.0 m, which weighs about 20 t and is supported on three supporting stones ( Three-point support) rests. The gaps between the supporting stones of the 2.0 m high chamber were closed by dry masonry . Two more bearing stones stand outside the covered area. A clochard lived in it for a long time , which created a usable domicile with wooden extensions.
