Maison des feins

The megalithic La Maison des Feins (also "des Fées" - German  "Feenhaus" ) is located on the edge of the Forêt du Mesnil oak forest , east of Le Bourg in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany in France . The English patron Sir Robert Mond (1867–1938) had the well-preserved Allée couverte restored in 1931.

It is 12 m long and a little over a meter wide and just as high. She still has seven cap stones. At the end there is a small, uncovered antechamber.

Two pairs of carved breasts have been preserved on the right inner side plate . A necklace is shown under each breast. It is a double configuration of a mother goddess who was the goddess of fertility and death. This motif can also be found in the facilities of Crec'h Quillé near Saint-Quay-Perros , Kerguntuil near Trégastel , Prajou-Menhir near Trébeurden , Mougau-Bihan near Commana and the Allée couverte de la Bellée near Boury-en-Vexin in the département Oise .

One of the end plates also shows two pairs of female breasts, but these are contemporary in nature and were chiseled out around 1960.

Megalithic systems with the name part “Fées” are common in France. Dolmen de la Maison des Fées is also the name of a dolmen near Miré in the far north of the Maine-et-Loire department . The Dolmen Ti Ar Boutiged is nicknamed "La Maison des Fées".

The complex has been classified as a Monument historique since 1889 .
