Petros Bereketis
Petros Bereketis ( Greek Πέτρος Μπερεκέτης ; * 1680 in Constantinople ; † 1715 ibid) was a Greek Orthodox church musician and composer of hymns .
Life
Petros Bereketis was born in Constantinople during the Ottoman Empire . His ecclesiastical musical career began under his teacher Damianos, who was a monk in the Vatopedic monastery .
Bereketis is counted among the four greatest Greek Orthodox composers of hymns between the late 17th and early 18th centuries, as was exemplified by Germanos of Patras . A large number of hymns were composed by Bereketis for celebrations taking place in the Orthodox church year .
Petros Bereketis taught Byzantine church music on the holy Mount Athos and in Constantinople, where he died in 1715.
