Evangelical Petruskirche

The Evangelical Petruskirche is a listed church building in Ramsbeck , a district of Bestwig in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is one of the oldest Protestant churches in the Sauerland .

History and architecture

Protestant miners from Saxony and the Harz Mountains were among the immigrants in the Catholic Sauerland in the 19th century. One of the first Protestant communities in what was then the Electoral Cologne Sauerland was established here . Pastoral focal points were initially the newly created towns of Neu-Andreasberg and Henrichsdorf, which later relocated to Ramsbeck. In 1855, August Friedrich Georg Disselhoff , the poet of the song Now ade you my dear homeland , served as assistant preacher .

The foundation stone for the building was laid on June 24, 1878 and executed according to a design by the Minden architect Wilhelm Moelle (1828–1916). The stones for the neo-Gothic hall church were broken in the area. The room was designed for 168 seats and additional child seats on the organ gallery. The church was inaugurated in 1879 by the directors Wiesmann and Marpe. There is an open bell carrier above the portal . In almost unchanged condition, the building is a later successor to the church buildings based on drafts from the Berlin Oberbaudeputation from the middle of the century . It is therefore important for the existing churches in the Hochsauerland and is a listed building.

The painter Elisabeth Altenrichter-Dicke redesigned the interior in 1994.
