Parish church Altenmarkt an der Triesting
The parish church Altenmarkt an der Triesting is located in an elevated position on the northern outskirts of the town of the market town of Altenmarkt an der Triesting in the Baden district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. John the Baptist belongs to the Deanery Pottenstein in the vicariate under the Vienna Woods of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).
history
In 1401 the church was named in a letter of indulgence from the bishop of Passau . Not known in 1494 a branch church of the Klein-Mariazell monastery . In 1785 the church was elevated to a parish church. In 1805, in the course of the abolition of the Klein-Mariazell monastery, the parish was abolished, but was reinstated in 1809.
Baroque construction work on the church began in 1783 under Abbot Urban from Melk Abbey and a parsonage was built. The church was restored outside in 1979 and inside in 1993.
architecture
The church has a baroque nave with a late Gothic choir and a west tower and is surrounded by a cemetery.
Furnishing
The high altar as a late baroque column retable shows the altar sheet Baptism of Christ by Skoff around 1843/1846 and bears the figures hll. Monika, Lucia, Joachim and Anna from the second half of the 18th century. Above the altar sheet, oval cartouches depicting Austria and Klein-Mariazell. In the extract, a canvas picture shows God the Father. At the base of the altar a relief shows scenes from the life of St. Rosalia. There is an inscription on the back of the altar that the altar was transferred here from the Carmelite Church in Wiener Neustadt in 1788 .
The simple hanging pulpit was built around 1785.
Stephan Hechinger built the organ in a neo-Gothic case in 1835. Ludolf Overlach mentions a bell in 1686.
