The Roman Catholic parish church of Bizau is north of the cemetery in the center of the Bregenzerwald community of Bizau in the Bregenz district in Vorarlberg . The parish church is consecrated to St. Valentine and belongs to the dean's office in Hinterwald in the diocese of Feldkirch . The church is a listed building .

history

In 1472 a chapel was first mentioned in a document in Bizau. In 1581 it became the local chaplaincy of the Reuthe parish . The church was enlarged in the 17th century and, according to a document, enlarged in 1788. In 1684 the church became an independent parish.

architecture

Exterior

The church consists of a baroque nave and an aligned choir which are located under a shared gable roof . The north tower has a pointed gable helmet.

The nave is divided by five arched windows on both sides, but the facade has no three-dimensional structure. The year 1788 is written on the keystone of the south portal. There are three circular windows on the gable facade. A curved canopy is built in front of the arched portal. The north tower was expanded in 1896 and provided with a pointed gable helmet. There are four arched sound openings above the cornice. A two-storey sacristy is attached to the choir .

The north tower is designed with corner pilasters and arched sound openings as well as four small arched openings on the north and east sides. The conclusion is straight, above it is a pointed helmet.

In the cemetery wall is a war memorial by Kaspar Albrecht .

Interior

Inside, the church forms a hall with a surrounding cornice. There is a flat slab over the hollow. The choir arch is drawn in and round. The choir closes in the 5/8. Above it is a needle cap barrel vault. In the west of the church there are deep galleries that rest on four pillars. On both sides, stairs lead to the galleries.

The fresco Adoration of the Cross in the Choir is named by L. Sölf pinxit 1759 (Seyff) and also shows Saints Gregory, John the Baptist, Hieronymus, Ambrosius, Josef, Augustine in a stucco-framed oval medallion. The frescoes in the nave show St. Valentin with a view of Bezau and the coronation of Mary in the middle with angels playing music and King David inscribed with Renov. v. Wilhelm 1852 and backwards Johannes Nepomuk. In the corners are empty stucco cartridges. On the walls under the cornice are oval medallions of the Twelve Apostles, all by Linus Seyff (1758). In the hollow above the choir arch is a stucco cartouche with the symbol of Christ. The glass paintings in the choir show Magdalena on the left and Cäcilia on the right.

Furnishing

The high altar is a two-column structure with scrolls on the sides, open entablature and a flat extension from around 1760. The altarpiece depicts the torture and glory of St. Valentine.

The high altar and the two side altars show pictures by Josef Reich (1900).

The organ in a case by Franz Anton Kiene (1837) has a work by Hubert Neumann (1962).
