The Roman Catholic parish church Egg is in the market town of Egg in the Bregenz Forest in Vorarlberg . The parish church of St. Nikolaus belongs to the dean's office in Hinterwald in the diocese of Feldkirch . The church is a listed building .

history

After the demolition of the medieval church, a new building was built between 1890 and 1892 according to the plans of the architect Anton Gamperle under the builder Fidel Kröner .

architecture

The neo-Gothic hall with a high gable roof and recessed choir has a pointed helm tower in the northern choir. During the restoration from 1950 to 1951, the historicizing ceiling paintings with flowers and tendrils in the nave were removed and left in the choir. The ceiling painting with saints in the nave was created by Leo Sebastian Humer (1950/1951).

Furnishing

The interior is from the years 1893 to 1894. The high altar and side altars are by the sculptor August Valentin , the figures of the side altars by the sculptor Alois Reich, the pulpit by the sculptor Moriz Schlachter .

The neo-Gothic organ received a new organ work from Rieger Orgelbau in 1964 .

graveyard

The church is surrounded by the local cemetery. In 1927 a war memorial portal was built in the cemetery wall alongside the church according to the plans of the architect Kaspar Albrecht .
