The Roman Catholic parish church Frankenmarkt is in the municipality of Frankenmarkt in the Vöcklabruck district in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to St. Nicholas and belongs to the Frankenmarkt dean's office in the Linz diocese . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1225. The church is a late Gothic building from the beginning of the 16th century and was probably built by Stephan Wultinger . After a fire in 1759, it was converted to Baroque style in the 1760s .

architecture

Church exterior

The steeple has an onion dome which , according to the inscription, was restored in 1767. The portals in the north and south have vestibules. A chapel with a flat ceiling is attached to the south of the nave

Church interior

The strong curves of the organ loft and the delicate rococo stucco decorations have grown into one unit with the Gothic core of the two-aisled nave of the church. This creates a very unique, but thoroughly uniform and attractive spatial effect. The two-aisled nave with three bays is divided by round columns. The three-bay choir closes on 3/8. The originally Gothic vaults were sanded down and provided with rich Rococo stucco. The frescoes were renewed at a later time. The two-storey, three-axis west gallery is curved. The parapet is also stuccoed. In 1959, frescoes from 1583 were uncovered on the north wall of the choir. They represent God the Father and the “ Ten Commandments ”, “ Mary with angelic choirs” and, on the right, Christ and the seven sacraments.

Furnishing

The altarpiece of the baroque high altar shows the "vision of St. Theresa ". It was painted in 1727 by Martin Altomonte . It originally hung in the Carmelite monastery in Linz . The side altars and the pulpit date from the second quarter of the 18th century. The altar in the chapel attached to the south is classical and dates from 1840. The altarpiece shows the " Annunciation of the Lord " and was painted in 1839 by IG Weibhausen . On the altar there are two baroque busts of Jesus and Mary. The busts from 1699 come from the Guggenbichler workshop . They are replicas of the originals in the Irrsdorf branch church . In the choir there are heraldic gravestones behind the high altar from the 16th and 17th centuries. Particularly noteworthy is the gravestone of Erasmus Kunigwiser , the pastor at the time the church was built and possible painter of the frescoes, from 1543 with a full relief figure.

Bell jar

The bell was cast in 1759.
