The Roman Catholic parish church Gußwerk is in the village of Gußwerk in the municipality of Mariazell in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district in Styria . It is consecrated to the Holy Cross and is located in the deanery of Bruck an der Mur in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The church was built between 1850 and 1853 with the builder Jakob Zearo and consecrated in 1853. A comprehensive interior restoration was carried out between 1951 and 1952. The parish of Gußwerk has been independent since 1958, before that it was a subsidiary of Mariazell .

architecture

The classical church building is a single-nave building with a widened central yoke. This is framed in the west by the narrower entrance yoke and in the east by the single-yoke choir with a circular segment closure. The individual yokes of the nave are vaulted with flat dome vaults and separated from each other by belt arches . The windows are designed as semicircles and rest inside on a continuous cornice. The wall is structured by pillars and pilasters . The west gallery with a cast iron railing is protruding. The facade is structured by flat triangular gables and ashlar plaster as well as pillars. The portal facade is structured by a triangular gable and two pilasters each to the right and left of the entrance portal, which is raised by a staircase. Above it is a window in the shape of a semicircle. To the east of the choir is the sacristy. Above is the tower with a pointed helmet .

Furnishing

In the interior there are mainly the cast iron candlesticks from the Gußwerker Eisengusswerk, the wall frescoes by Lukas Reicht , Mönch in Seckau from 1951 to 1952, and a font and holy water basin also from the Gußwerker Eisengusswerk. The altar inserted into the curve of the choir is crowned with a triangular gable. Its center is the altar leaf framed by two pilasters with artfully crafted capitals. The organ's simply designed prospect harmonizes with the interior of the church.
