The Roman Catholic parish church Hörzendorf is located in the Hörzendorf district in the municipality of Sankt Veit an der Glan in the Sankt Veit an der Glan district in Carinthia . The parish church of St. Georg belongs to the dean's office of Klagenfurt-Land / Celovec-dežela in the Gurk-Klagenfurt diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

A church is mentioned in documents in 1087 and 1136.

architecture

The Gothic church building - with Romanesque masonry in the nave - was expanded in the west in the Baroque period and provided with an outer gallery staircase. The Gothic choir has two-tiered buttresses. The mighty Gothic tower on the south side of the choir with a baroque bell storey has an eight-sided, curved pointed helmet. A baroque chapel was built on the north side of the choir. The roofing consists of stone slabs.

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery. Josef Pfefferle (1936) created a mosaic above the cemetery portal .

Furnishing

The high altar is a remarkable early Baroque retable with rich ornamentation from the first half of the 17th century.
