Parish church Maria zu den Drei Feichten
The parish church Maria zu den Drei Feichten is the Catholic parish church of Hitzendorf in Styria . It was probably built in the 13th century and had to be rebuilt after a fire in 1699. It is consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary . The building, including the surrounding cemetery with its initial chapels, is a listed building ( list entry ).
layout
The church was built as a single nave structure. Two side chapels were added in the 17th century . In 1699 the church, which was destroyed by fire, had to be rebuilt. The main altar is designed in the neo-Gothic style . On an altar dedicated to St. Florian is a view of the town from 1750. In the church there are two statues designed by Hans Brandstetter .
history
Originally there was probably a forest on the site of today's church with a Marian shrine destroyed by fire. The church was probably built in the 13th century, but it was first mentioned in documents in 1450. Two side chapels were added in the 17th century. The church burned down in a fire in 1699 and was then rebuilt. Today's main altar dates from 1888. The parish church was extensively renovated in 1979.
In 2016, there was another extensive renovation and partial redesign (chancel) inside.
Legend
According to legend, at the current location of the church there was a wooden chapel with a stone statue of the Virgin Mary. Not far from the wooded chapel stood three mighty spruce trees , from which the current name of the parish church is derived. A healing spring is said to have risen near the chapel.
