Marke is a village in the southwestern Harz foreland and part of the former district town of Osterode am Harz in the district of Göttingen in southern Lower Saxony , Germany .
geography
The village is roughly in the middle of a straight line between Osterode and Northeim . It is the westernmost part of Osterode and is located on the edge of the forest around one kilometer north of Elvershausen .
history
Brand was first mentioned in a document in 1350. The place name is traced back to the border location between the Principality of Göttingen and the Principality of Grubenhagen . The village was destroyed in 1549 in a feud between the Lords of Oldershausen and Heinrich II. (Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel) . It was rebuilt and a chapel was built after the Reformation in 1584. On July 1, 1972, brand was incorporated.
