Location of Nienstedt am Harz in Osterode am Harz

Nienstedt is a village in the southwestern Harz foreland and part of the former district town of Osterode am Harz in the district of Göttingen (formerly the district of Osterode am Harz ) in southern Lower Saxony , Germany .

geography

The village borders directly on Förste , separated by the Söse . Eisdorf is a few hundred meters north .

history

It was first mentioned as Nigenstede in Luitpold I's founding document for the Petersstift Nörten in 1055, the old Saxon place name means (as in the case of the numerous places with identical names) new site or new place . The Counts of Northeim , the Lords of Letgast and of Oldershausen as well as of Hardenberg were wealthy here. In the Thirty Years' War , a large part of the village was destroyed, including a first school. In 1778, today's church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of St. Martin was built, which also includes foresters. The Meier- and Kothöfe were exempted from the obligation to pay the gentlemen with the Hanoverian Replacement Act of 1831. The school, which had existed since 1883, was replaced by the school in Förste in the 1960s .

On July 1, 1972, Nienstedt am Harz was incorporated into the then district town of Osterode am Harz.
