Johann Friedrich Ludwig Rothensee

Johann Friedrich Ludwig Rothensee (born April 27, 1759 in Nienstedt am Harz , † March 26, 1835 in Bruchsal ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and clergyman .

Life

Rothensee studied theology and philosophy at the Josephinum in Hildesheim , which at that time had a university theological department, and at the University of Würzburg . In 1782 he was ordained a priest and then became professor of philosophy at the University of Hildesheim.

Rothensee went to Speyer in 1785 as vicar of the cathedral monastery and became court chaplain and a member of the ordinariate under Prince-Bishop August von Limburg-Stirum in Bruchsal. He also served in this office under his successor in office, Philipp Franz Wilderich Nepomuk Count von Walderdorf . After secularization , he became a member of the electoral church commission in 1805 and was appointed to the secret council of churches . In 1811 he was appointed director of the episcopal ordinariate, an office he held until the Archdiocese of Freiburg was established .
