Gossas is a city in the center of Senegal . It is prefecture of the Gossas department in the Fatick region .
Geographical location
Gossas is located in the northeast of the Fatick region , 150 kilometers east of Dakar and 40 kilometers from the Fatick regional prefecture . Gossas Village is five kilometers west of the city
history
The place Gossas received a train station during the expansion of the Dakar – Niger railway between Thiès and Kayes , which took place between 1907 and 1923. The importance of the railway line for the development of the city can still be seen from the fact that all streets run parallel or at right angles to the railway line like a chessboard .
Since 1985 there has been a city sponsorship with Schwabach in Bavaria.

The national road N 4 , which forms a north-south cross connection between the N 3 in Diourbel and the N 1 in Kaolack , crosses the Saloum there and via Nioro du Rip and the Gambian transit route of the Trans-Gambia Highway to the South Senegalese leads through Gossas Casamance leads to Ziguinchor .
The N4 runs 500 meters west of the Dakar – Niger railway line and runs parallel to it through the urban area of Gossas. The railway line is important for freight traffic in the peanut basin and with neighboring Mali.
Gossas is connected to Kaolack Airport, 40 km away, and the national air transport network via the N4 .
