Location of Petershütte in Osterode am Harz

Petershütte was a village near the B243 at the Upper Harz rand in Söse valley and is now with the neighboring villages Katzenstein and Petershütte and the former county town of Osterode am Harz grown together, so that it now forms a district of Osterode. Osterode is located in the district of Göttingen (formerly in the district of Osterode am Harz ) in southern Lower Saxony in Germany .

history

The earliest mention of the place was in 1585. A written testimony from 1622 refers to “Petersberg. Alte Glashütte ”. Therefore could here first a Waldglashutte have passed, which was ultimately called critical to the resulting settlement: Peter mountain hut was speaking economically contracted to Petershütte as was notably 1673 first mentioned.

An ironworks was operated on the Söse from the beginning of the 16th century . A settlement was formed here by the workers. The hut was closed around 1600. A paper mill existed in the vicinity until the 19th century, in whose buildings a copper mill was operated until before the Second World War . Then there was a satellite camp of the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp .

Petershütte forms an urban unit with Katzenstein and Lasfelde .

On February 1, 1971, Petershütte was incorporated into the district town of Osterode am Harz.
