The Roman Catholic parish and pilgrimage church Lauffen , known as the Sanctuary of "Maria im Schatten" , stands on the right side of the Traun at the eastern end of the village Lauffen in the municipality of Bad Ischl in the district of Gmunden in Upper Austria . It is dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the pastoral care room Bad Ischl in the dean's office Bad Ischl . The church is a listed building .

history

A church in Lauffen is mentioned in a document as early as 1117. 1344 the parish church was first mentioned explicitly ( "vnser Vrowen chürchen") for which the Lauffener citizens of each passing Zille could collect a penny salt. However, the parish of Lauffen only became independent in the second half of the 16th century. Until then, Lauffen was under the Goisern parish . The current church is a hall church that was built in the middle of the 15th century.

Church building

The church has a two-aisled, three-and-a-half bay nave with a six-part diamond -star vault . The single-bay choir is off-axis with a cross vault and a 3/8 end. To the south of the choir is a one- bay, ribbed vaulted chapel with an irregular 5/8 end. This chapel was built in 1456. The tower with onion helmet built on to the west dates from 1705.

Furnishing

The high altar was donated in 1686 and completed by Salzburg artists by 1719 . The two side altars were erected in 1637 and restored in 1845. They were changed in the process. The north altar was restored in 1951. The pulpit dates from 1737, the altar of the side chapel from 1707. The wrought-iron entrance gate dates from the end of the 17th century.
