The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

In documents a church was mentioned in 1352 and a priest in 1423. A curate was established in 1483, and in 1891 the church was elevated to a parish church. The Martinskirche at the Pestfriedhof, built in 1648, was replaced by a new building according to plans by Franz Kleinhans in 1751/1752 and consecrated in 1761. In 1761/1768 Franz Kleinhans redesigned the tower on the upper floors. In 1957 the interior was restored with Toni Kirchmayr . In 1974 there was an exterior restoration with a restoration of the crypt chapel.

architecture

The uniform baroque church building with transept-like chapels stands under a hipped roof in a walled cemetery. The north tower, which is essentially Gothic in baroque style, stands at the transition from a side chapel to the choir.

Furnishing

The high altar around 1760 as a six-column structure on a curved floor plan with cranked straight entablature slightly curved above the painting on composite capitals has a flat extension with pilasters and lateral volute bands. The high altar painting Beheading of St. Katharina created Johann Georg Witwer (around 1780).

The extensive baroque frescoes were created in just 128 days and are considered masterpieces by Giuseppe Gru from Verona (1753/54).

The baroque organ from the abandoned Rottenbuch monastery in Bavaria was transferred here in 1803 and set up in a simple case by Franz Thoma . A bell gives the year 1411 and is the oldest dated bell in North Tyrol.
