The Roman Catholic parish church Mogersdorf at the eastern end of the village green of Mogersdorf ( Hungarian : Nagyfalva ) in the Jennersdorf district in Burgenland is dedicated to St. Joseph and belongs to the Jennersdorf dean's office .

history

The church was elevated to a parish church before 1664 - a document from the 17th century speaks of a St. Martin's church .

The current building was built in 1775. In 1948 and 1975 it was renovated and a crypt was discovered in the latter.

Architecture and equipment

The church is a single-nave hall building. A tower with a pointed helmet is located above the high west facade. The church has a retracted polygonal choir.

The ceiling is three-bay with narrow square vaults. There is a semi-dome over the semicircular apse.

The wall painting on the triumphal arch shows the " Battle of Mogersdorf " on August 1, 1664 against the Ottomans . It was painted by Josef Rösch in 1912. It shows a castle-like building on the Schlößlberg. The rider on the white horse is said to be General Sporck. Mary stands in heaven with the child. A cross shines as a symbol of the Christian victory over the Ottomans.

The neo-Romanesque main altar and side altar were created around 1900.

The pulpit was built in the second half of the 18th century. It is adorned with gold-plated rococo decor on the basket and sound cover .

The neo-baroque chandeliers are remarkable .

The wooden Madonna next to the high altar, created in 1739, originally comes from the Schlösslberg chapel .

In the basement of the tower there is a Pietà and a group of figures from the mid-18th century.
