Church building

Church exterior

The west tower with pointed hood was started at the beginning of the 19th century and completed in 1913.

In earlier times the parish church was surrounded by the cemetery, which was moved to the west in 1806. The original roof structure still exists on the late Gothic nave and on the choir, which is almost the same height. Today's bells are dated 1951 and 1957. A portal vestibule with a neo-Romanesque column connects to the sacristy, which protrudes in the southeast.

The original part of the nave is single-nave and three-bay. Above it is ribbed vault . In 1929, a south aisle with four aisles was added to the old nave. The constricted triumphal arch separates the nave from the choir. The two-bay choir with a 5/8 end is vaulted with mesh ribs. There are semicircular services in both the nave and the choir . The three-axis gallery is broken twice. The former communion grate made of wood from the second quarter of the 17th century stands on the new west gallery. It was reused as a parapet railing.

Furnishing

According to the document, the high altar of the tabernacle was created in 1769. The altar painting by Leopold Kupelwieser from 1829 shows the “ Last Supper ”. The high altar consists of a magnificent tabernacle set up in a cafeteria. The painting was attached to the eastern end of the choir, dispensing with an actual altar structure.

The stained glass in the two side chancel windows is dated 1915, the left shows the motifs of the evangelists Matthew and Mark , the right the symbols of Luke and John (winged person, lion, bull and eagle). As console statues in the choir on the left wall of the choir St. Laurentius and on the right wall of the choir St. Berthold (first Abbot of Garsten) attached. The figures, based on baroque forms, are new creations from 1934 by Artur Rauch.

In the northern baptistery there is a stone baptismal font with a neo-Gothic structure. The statue of St. Joseph with the baby Jesus from 1900 stands in a wall niche. The pulpit dates from the Baroque period (3rd quarter of the 18th century). The sound cover is crowned by the statue of Moses with the tablets of the law.

The three figures in the nave are: Opposite the pulpit is the baroque group of figures of St. Anna with her daughter Maria (1st third of the 18th century), on the second wall pillar a baroque figure of St. Anthony of Padua and opposite a saint without attributes (possibly St. Joseph or St. Laurentius, late 18th century). The glass windows in the nave are partially provided with colored ornaments. The first window is from 1934, the other four from 1913/14.

The first organ was installed in 1726 and replaced in 1889. The current instrument, a mechanical slide organ, was inaugurated in 1976 and renovated in 1992.

A painted, wrought-iron Rococo grave cross (18th century) hangs on the eastern end wall of the new aisle.
