The Pölling parish church is located in the village of Pölling in the municipality of Sankt Andrä in the Wolfsberg district in Carinthia . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. John the Baptist , belongs to the deanery of St. Andrä in the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

A church was documented in 1314.

architecture

The church building with a wide baroque nave and a Gothic choir and north tower is surrounded by a formerly fortified walled cemetery. The tower has a bell storey with profiled round bars at the corners with ogival sound openings and wears a pointed helmet.

The interior of the church shows a nave under a barrel vault with stitch caps over pilasters, the vault is structured with a ridge network and between suns, rosettes and quatrefoils made of stucco. The slightly swinging wooden gallery on wooden pillars. The narrow, high Gothic triumphal arch, with an inscription above the arch, mentions 1655. The two-bay choir with a five-eighth closure has a ribbed vault on circular services and profiled wall templates, the keystones show a star, rosette and a maker's mark. The southern groin-vaulted sacristy was redesigned in Baroque style. In the choir, a gothic profiled portal with an iron-studded door leads to the groin-vaulted tower ground floor. The wooden gallery on the north choir wall with turned supports and balusters is named 1638, the gallery has a round arched portal to the upper floor of the tower. The choir has three two-lane tracery windows, the sacraments house with 1533 has pinnacles and crab decorations and shows John the Baptist in a relief.

The wall painting of the Renaissance , on the north end wall of the choir, typological scenes brazen snake, crucifix, north-east scenes from the life of John the Baptist donated according to the inscription by the pastor ... Johanns Neupekh von Schtraswalhen ... 1539.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar from 1750 bears the figures of Zacharias and Elisabeth and shows the altar sheet Baptism of Christ from 1945/1950 in the essay the oval picture Madonna. The side altars bear the statue of Immaculata on the left and a crucifix from the mid-18th century on the right. There are six statues of a neo-Gothic altar from 1900.

There are canvas paintings of the Rosary Madonna, Dominic and Catherine of Siena with donors from the 17th century. A votive picture with the weather saints John and Paul mentions 1763.
