The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to Saint Oswald belongs to the Deanery Knittelfeld in the diocese of Graz-Seckau . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

A church was documented in 1406. In 1782 the church was elevated to a parish church, and the patronage changed from St. Mary to St. Oswald. The church was restored outside in 1972 and 1981 and inside in 1980.

architecture

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery, in the cemetery wall and at the church there are initial chapels .

The choir square and the south wall of the nave are essentially Romanesque. The nave was enlarged to the north in baroque style and received a flat ceiling with stucco fields. The ceiling painting in the nave with scenes from the life of the blessed Engelbert Kolland is the name of the painter T. Hafner in 1949. The swinging baroque west gallery stands on pillars. The constricted front arch is rounded. The recessed choir square has a deep groin vault. The sacristy north of the choir is vaulted with a pointed barrel. The three-storey west tower in romanized forms is called 1878 and has an eight-sided pointed helmet.

Furnishing

The rococo high altar was built in the first quarter of the 18th century and bears a statue of Oswald from the 19th century.

There is a small seated Madonna and Child made of stone from the first quarter of the 15th century with a lion on a pedestal with three and four passports. A statue of Mary and Child around 1520 is on loan from the Diocesan Museum Graz .

The organ was renewed in 1857 by Friedrich Wagner. Adam Roschtauscher names a bell in 1672.
