The Roman Catholic parish church Sonntag stands on the northern slope of Flecken in the community of Sonntag in the Great Walsertal in Vorarlberg . The parish church , consecrated to Saints Oswald and Dominic , belongs to the Walgau-Walsertal deanery in the Feldkirch diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

In the 14th and 15th centuries the chapel was a branch of the double parish Bludesch - Thuringia and was named for the holy day of the sun . In 1393 a document was given of an excecendokaplan and a cemetery. In 1406 Sunday became a curate and a parish by 1457 at the latest. In 1806 the avalanche destroyed the nave was rebuilt and extended and consecrated in 1820.

The classicist nave with a Gothic choir under a shared gable roof and a Gothic north tower are surrounded by a walled cemetery.

Furnishing

The high altar from the end of the 17th century with a baroque four-pillar structure with two twisted columns carries a straight cranked entablature and a volute extension was built by the carpenter Schwarzmann. The high altar picture St. Franz Bertle (1868) painted Oswald and the upper picture Immaculata . The high altar bears the side figures of Peter and Paul from the end of the 18th century, the putti on the scrolls and the entablature and God the Father as a crown in the extract, as well as the tabernacle with two kneeling angels, are from the end of the 17th century. In a niche there is a group of crosses from the 19th century.

The left side altar around 1700, placed across the corner from the choir arch wall, as a four-pillar structure with two rotated pillars, in the extension with four straight pillars, shows the altarpiece Rosary Madonna with Jesus painted by Franz Bertle (1868), the upper picture shows St. Joseph. The right side altar with the same structure shows St. Katharina and in the upper picture St. Martin, both painted by Franz Bertle (1868).

The relief of the Entombment of Christ on the modern popular altar from the Anna Chapel in Faschina from the beginning of the 17th century was transferred to the Sunday parish church in 1936.

Figures, Hll. Oswald and Stefan, as well as Gothic reliefs, shabby, were created around 1500. The figure Maria with child was created around 1730/1740.

The organ from 1883 was rebuilt in 1964 by Edmund Hohn . Today's organ was built by Christoph Enzenhofer in 2009.
