The Roman Catholic parish church St. Stefan in Lavanttal is in the village of St. Stefan in the Wolfsberg community . Between 1106 and 1139 a chapel is mentioned for the first time, St. Stefan. From 1953 St. Stefan was a parish exposition, since 1964 an independent parish. The Rieding branch church also belongs to the parish.

Building description

The late Gothic church was built around 1500. In 1962 it was expanded on the north side and extended to the west. The late Gothic, profiled west portal was transferred to the extension. The sacristy is located on the south side. The tower in the northern choir corner is crowned by a pyramid helmet. Above the three-bay , late Gothic nave, a ribbed vault rests on circular services . The central nave is opened through arcades to the flat-roofed, northern extension. The windows in the nave were renewed in 1962. A late Gothic, profiled, round-arched triumphal arch connects the nave and the single-bay choir. A ribbed vault on services and consoles rises above the choir with a five-eighth closure . Are located at the intersections ribs shields . The late Gothic tracery windows have been preserved in the choir . A shoulder arch portal with an iron plate door leads to the tower ground floor. At the choir partition? a Roman epitaph for the natives Quartinus, Messia, Saxxu and Secundinus is attached.

Facility

On the high altar, which was built around 1700, there is a saint Stephen from the end of the 15th century and a baroque image of saint Johannes Nepomuk . On the side altar, made around 1710/1720, there is a Madonna figure from the end of the 15th century. The pulpit basket from the first quarter of the 18th century is now used as an ambo . In the church hang an oil painting with the stoning of St. Stephen from the 17th century and a painting with the transfiguration of St. Lawrence from the middle of the 18th century. The relief from the Mount of Olives dates from the end of the 15th century. The statues of Saints Stephanus and Laurentius were created by Alois Progar for the former high altar in 1889/90. There are also console figures in the church of Saints Sebastian and Christophorus , which were made around 1500, as well as Saints Joachim and Anna from the first half of the 18th century.
