history

A church is believed to have existed even before the Mondsee Abbey came into power in 833. The place is owned by Regensburg, signed with a document from 976, 979 from Emperor Otto II . Around 1100 the parish is accepted and in 1107 incorporated into Mondsee. 1370 Foundation of a chapel, then reconstruction, and from the end of the 15th century to the early 16th century new building according to uniform late-Gothic plans. From 1874 to 1875 new construction of the tower, from 1878 to 1879 widening of the gallery. From 1905 to 1912 a neo-Gothic entrance hall was added. From 1955 to 1956 the baroque furnishings removed in 1905 are restored. In 2015 the outside of the parish church was renovated.

church

Due to the hillside location, the church has an eight meter high substructure and appears closed on the outside, as the forces are diverted inside through the delicate fields of a ribbed vault. The all-round gallery with slim pillars standing close to the outer wall makes the church interior unique. As the first church in the German-speaking area, construction began in 1421, with a statically effective, fully encircling gallery, the Amberg Martinskirche is accepted, which was thus also a model for later churches in Saxony.

organ

The organ was damaged in a fire in 1866 . First they made do with a harmonium , then the organ was makeshift repaired. In 1877/78 a new organ was commissioned from the organ builder Josef Breinbauer in Ottensheim . During transport, the organ fell into the Danube near Linz , so it had to be repaired again and again. On the occasion of the 950th anniversary of the parish in 1929, a new organ with around 1450 pipes was installed in the old case by the Orgelbau Gebrüder Mauracher company .
