The parish church Walchsee is south of the main street in the municipality Walchsee in the district of Kufstein in the state of Tyrol . The patronage of St. The Roman Catholic parish church subordinated to John the Baptist belongs to the Deanery Kufstein of the Archdiocese of Salzburg . history

A church was documented in 1399. The late Gothic church was changed in 1626 and redesigned in 1702/1704 according to the plans of the master builder Martin Pockh. The church was renovated in the middle of the 19th century. In 1891 the church was elevated to a parish church. 1905 to 1908 was a renovation.

architecture

The church is a baroque hall church with a Gothic west tower.

The exterior of the church is simply structured with segmented arched windows. A slightly drawn-in polygonal choir adjoins the nave. A two-story sacristy is attached to the south. The late Gothic west tower from the 15th century has baroque sound openings from 1773 and has a pointed gable helmet. The open vestibule on the tower ground floor is vaulted with ribs, the niche figure of Christ in the dungeon is from the 18th century. The Gothic west portal is grooved twice and has a neo-Gothic wooden door with tracery carving. The arched north portal mentions 1626.

The interior of the church shows a three-bay nave under a barrel vault with stitch caps from 1702/1704 and walls with pilasters. The deep west gallery is two-story. Separated from the nave by wall pillars and a belt arch, there is a one-bay Gothic choir with a five-eighth end , the Gothic vault is clad in Baroque style. The ceiling and wall paintings with Baroque decor and three medallions Birth of John the Baptist, Baptism of Christ and Beheading of John were originally created by Sebastian Anton Defregger in 1813 and painted over by the painter Josef Gold in 1908.

Furnishing

Joseph Stumpf created the high altar with an early historical structure in the height and width of the choir with side portals and figure niches, the high altar picture Baptism of Christ was painted by Franz N. Streicher at the end of the 18th century, the high altar bears the figures Zacharias and Elisabeth, Anna and Joachim from the 19th century, in the gable God the Father from the 18th century, the reliquaries in the cafeteria and the candlestick angels are Rococo.

The side altars were created by Johann Schweinester in 1843, they show the altarpiece Holy Family by JK 1911 on the left and the altarpiece Lamentation of Christ by the same painter on the right .

There is a Gothic lecture cross from 1430. Busts of St. Peter and Paul created Benedikt Faistenberger in 1673.
