history
The parish is known as the mother parish, which, along with other mother parishes in the Waldviertel , was founded in the second half of the 11th century by the diocese of Passau . The area was in 1135 as a tithe from the Babenberg Leopold III. handed over to Passau. In 1204 a pastor was mentioned in a document. After damage in 1681, the church was renovated. In 1721 the tower was raised. From 1728 to 1731 the church was redesigned in Baroque style . In 1956/1957 the church was renovated.
architecture
The three-aisled baroque nave from 1728/1731 is joined by a clear bend in the two- bay Gothic choir from the end of the 14th century with a five- eighth end . The western front forms a separate structure in front of the nave with a central entrance area with two pillars and two side rooms on both sides. The basilica character of the nave was changed by the later installation of galleries and the walling up of the oval windows in the tall nave walls of the original medieval central nave. The massive medieval defense tower, which was raised in 1721, stands in the southern choir corner.
Furnishing
The magnificent late Rococo altar from 1774 has a reredos with protruding bundles of pilasters. The high altar picture shows a Madonna dedicated to St. Dominic hands over the rosary , the top picture shows St. Martin kneeling before Christ. Furthermore, the high altar shows the 15 secrets of the rosary by the painter Jacob Kohl (1774) on metal panels.
