Wolfurt parish church
The Roman Catholic parish church Wolfurt is in the market town of Wolfurt in the district of Bregenz in Vorarlberg . The parish church , consecrated to St. Nicholas of Myra , belongs to the Bregenz deanery of the Feldkirch diocese . The church is a listed building .
history
Originally a branch of Bregenz, a document was initially named as a Nikolauskapelle, in 1493 a chaplain, and in 1512 a parish. From 1226 the church was a patronage church of the Weißenau monastery and from 1602 of the Mehrerau monastery. The current church was built in 1833/1834 according to plans by Alois Negrelli (?) And consecrated in 1849. In 1973 the interior of the church was redesigned by the architect Peter Konzett.
architecture
The classicist building under a hipped roof with a lower retracted choir with a round apse has a north tower. The nave has a wide west front with a central projectile, four pilasters and a triangular gable and shows a circumferential band and a circumferential cornice under the semicircular windows, the flat round apse has circular windows. There is a mosaic of St. Nikolaus by Leo Sebastian Hummer signed LSH 52. The north tower has two arched sound openings on the upper floor and wears a pointed gable helmet.
The hall with a flat barrel on a surrounding cornice on coupled wall pilasters with semicircular windows in between has side entrances to the north and south. The west gallery stands on two columns and has a staircase on both sides. The retracted choir has a barrel vault and a straight open end with an arch on two columns and two pillars with a sacristy behind in the flat arch of the round apse.
The glass paintings were created in 1938 by the Tiroler Glasmalerei Anstalt , in the choir Nikolaus, in the nave Elisabeth, Theresia and Agnes on the left and Tarcisius, Michael and Josef on the right.
Furnishing
The crucifix on the altar wall was created by Sepp Baumgartner (1938). The glass paintings on the altar wall were created by Hubert Berchtold (1973). Herbert Albrecht (1973) created the altar, ambo, tabernacle and Easter candlestick . The stations of the cross made of mosaic are signed Anton Figel.
Gebhard Flatz (1873) painted the former high altar picture of the Coronation of Mary with the artist and wife as donors and the saints Gebhard, Gallus and Fidelis with a view of Wolfurt . The figure Maria with child is a copy of a Gothic sculpture around 1470, which is in the Vorarlberg State Museum .
The organ was built in 1962 by the organ builder Hubert Neumann.
graveyard
The arcaded cemetery has a Mount of Olives grotto in the east with a curved facade gable and contains wooden figures of the Mount of Olives scene. The cemetery chapel is a rectangular building with a round apse under a gable roof, the vestibule on four columns was renewed in 1981. In the cemetery is a priest's grave with a relief Salvator by the sculptor Gottfried Bechtold .
The war memorial with a death lamp and heroes' cemetery was built into the church hill in 1930 according to plans by the architect Alfons Fritz .
