Johann Maria Alfons Fritz (born August 2, 1900 in Andelsbuch , Vorarlberg , † February 7, 1933 in Dornbirn ) was a building artist and architect.

Life

Origin and family

Fritz was born the son of the hat maker Alois Fritz († 1913), who was organist and choir regent in his free time, and his wife Maria Ursula Meusburger. He had a younger brother, Anton (1901-1989), who entered the teacher training college in 1915 and was headmaster in Andelsbuch from 1938 onwards.

Alfons Fritz met his wife Hildegard Mümmler in Vienna in 1925, whom he married after a short acquaintance. They moved to Dornbirn together. There are three children from the marriage. His middle son Rochus had Luis Trenker as godfather, who had worked with Clemens Holzmeister .

Education

He attended secondary school in Dornbirn until 1919 (this is where he met his friend Edmund Kalb ) and actually wanted to be a painter first, but then switched to architecture because of the better prospects of income . Fritz then studied under difficult financial circumstances (a loan came from Professor of General Art History Joseph Popp ) architecture in Munich at the Technical University , graduating with honors after only four years. He submitted his thesis to Heinrich von Schmidt in 1923 .

His fellow students were among others Heinz Moll .

activities

At the end of 1923 he moved to Clemens Holzmeister's architectural office in Innsbruck . In 1924, he and his friend Bartle Kleber illustrated the special Bregenzerwald issue of Heimat magazine . In 1925, Holzmeister appointed Alfons Fritz to his private studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna for a short time .

Alfons Fritz moved to Dornbirn in mid-1926 and worked briefly for the JA Albrich construction business .

In November 1926 he opened his own architecture office in Dornbirn and was able to present a letter of recommendation from German Bestelmeyer . In 1927 he designed the logo of the Vorarlberger Landesmuseumsverein .

From 1928 to 1930 he worked as an assistant teacher and from the beginning of May 1932 taught at the Federal College for Building and Electrical Engineering in Bregenz . This was followed by his appointment as a court-sworn expert in 1929. He then passed the civil architect exam in mid-1932. In 1933, the civil engineer for building construction was confirmed as credit for the civil architect.
