history

The place is documented for the first time as "Ebenot". From around 1351 until after 1377 there was a monastery of the Augustinian hermits of St. Paul Einsiedel in Ebnit . The monastery was founded by the Lords of Ems . A chaplaincy is mentioned for the first time in 1423 . The church at that time burned down in 1508. In 1515 a new building took place. In 1594 the chaplaincy was raised to a parish. In 1776 the church was restored and rededicated in 1782. However, the church burned down again in 1927. For this reason, Alfons Fritz built a new building in 1928 and 1929. This was consecrated in 1930.

The main entrance is on the south side of the church in a low transverse building. To the south of the choir is the sacristy , which is covered by a pent roof. Furnishing

The high altar originally comes from the parish church of Riezlern in the Kleiner Walsertal . The structure, created at the beginning of the 18th century, has six twisted columns with straight curved beams , as well as a top with six columns. The tabernacle zone is very high. In place of the altarpiece is a crucifix from the beginning of the 18th century with Mary Magdalene. The figures on the side represent St. Martin on the left and St. Wolfgang on the right . In the top are a group of figures " Coronation of the Virgin " and two kneeling entablature angels. The tabernacle has a standing cross with Mary Magdalene kneeling below. The stand cross is crowned by a pelican . The tabernacle is decorated with four putti . On the side of the tabernacle are two silver busts. St. Mary Magdalene is depicted on the left, St. Peter on the right . The silver busts were made around 1760.

The left side altar is a structure with two twisted columns with segmented gables above closed entablature. The figure is a copy of the Rankweiler Madonna of Mercy by Georg and Albert Bachmann . There are also two entablature angels on the altar.

The structure of the right side altar is identical to the left. There is a figure of St. Joseph on the altar . This is flanked by pastries with attributes of St. Joseph.

The passion scenes in the choir by Matthias Jely from Bludenz come from the Rankweil basilica . He painted it in 1847. The Crowning of Thorns, the Fall of the Cross and Saint Anne with Child date from around 1700. A picture of Saint Cecilia by Walter Bastania hangs on the gallery , freely based on Carlo Dolci from 1947. Julius Wehinger created the Stations of the Cross 1938. The font comes from the hand of Gustav Bachmann . On the west wall of the nave there are figures of Saints Afra and Augustine from the mid-18th century.
