Carlo Dolci
Carlo Dolci (. Spr dóltschi) (* 25. May 1616 in Florence ; † 17th January 1686 ) was an Italian painter of the Baroque .
Dolci came to Jacopo Vignali's studio as a pupil around 1625 . According to his own statements, in addition to his teacher Vignali, Dolci was also very much influenced by Agnolo Bronzino . Nevertheless, he had found his own style.
In 1648 Dolci was accepted as a member of the Accademia dell'Arte del Disegno in Florence. According to rumors from contemporaries, Dolci died in Florence on January 17, 1686 , allegedly having become melancholy because of criticizing remarks by Luca Giordano in recent years .
His daughter Agnese († 1680) was his student and painted in his way.
While superficial bravura painting was predominant at that time, he painted carefully with delicately dispersed colors. But even with him the stimulus of the affected was the driving factor; his devotional pictures are characterized by a bland sweetness and a sentimental expression, and in order to achieve a three-dimensional effect he believed he could not do without the black shadows despite his otherwise harmonious coloring.
