Alfons Luger
Alfons Luger (born August 1, 1869 in Dornbirn ; † June 14, 1945 there ) was an Austrian genre and landscape painter.
Luger was the younger brother of the painter and politician Engelbert Luger (1861-1926), who was the mayor of Dornbirn from 1910. After his first painting lessons from his brother, he trained in Ulm and Stuttgart from 1892 onwards . He later studied at the General Drawing School in Vienna and from November 3, 1897 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Nikolaus Gysis , Martin von Feuerstein and Ludwig von Löfftz .
After completing his studies, Alfons Luger returned to Dornbirn and worked with his brother on church paintings. In 1904 Alfons Luger built a residential and studio house on Kellenbühel No. 4 in the Dornbirn Oberdorf based on the design of the architect Josef Schöch, which was later called "Brush Castle" and which is now a listed building.
From 1908 to 1932 he worked as a teacher for decorative painting at the trade school in Bregenz . He spent the last years of his life in retirement in Dornbirn.
