Detlev Brüning (born December 22, 1901 in Anklam ; † May 11, 1992 in Stendal ) was a German agricultural scientist. For decades he headed the research center for forest fertilization in the potash industry in the GDR in Stendal.

Life

Brüning studied agriculture at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . In 1923 he became active with Ludwig Denecke in the Corps Palaiomarchia . As a qualified farmer, he was awarded a Dr. sc. nat. PhD. In the service of the potash industry since 1930, he worked at their agricultural information centers in Berlin, Stolpe and Stettin. Later he headed the Szczecin office. After the war he set up the agriculture and forestry department of the potash research institute of the Central German potash industry in Stendal. Brüning earned particular merits with the establishment of an extensive test area network designed according to modern experimental principles, which he began to lay out in the early 1950s. In doing so, he made an important contribution to the expansion of the forestry experimental system in the German Democratic Republic . He also gained valuable results from the resumption and extended evaluation of older fertilization tests carried out by various test carriers, e.g. Some of them had already been created in the 1920s. Together with the Polish Forest Research Institute in Warsaw, he started the series of experiments founded in 1933 in Schneidemühl . His work provided forestry practice with many results that could be adopted immediately. With the results of the work of forest scientists from the Eberswalde Higher Forestry School and the Tharandt Forestry University , they provided the essential basis for a large-scale forest fertilization program in the GDR.

Brüning made sure that the bust of Gustav Nachtigal was put up again in Stendal . He financed the replacement of the taller monument base, which was destroyed in 1970, himself. Palaiomarchia owes him the transfer of the corp house back .
