Nordergrund is the name of an offshore wind farm in the German Wadden Sea of the North Sea that has been in operation since 2017.
location
The total area of the wind farm, which is about 15 kilometers east of the island of Wangerooge in the mouth of the Weser , is around 6 km². In contrast to most other German offshore wind farms, the OWP Nordergrund is located near the coast in an area with water depths of only 2 to 10 meters. It is located within the 12 nautical mile zone in Lower Saxony and not like most other German offshore wind farms in the exclusive economic zone .
history
The wind farm was projected by the wind energy company Energiekontor , and in 2013 it was sold to wpd , which sold a 30% stake to the listed company John Laing Group . The Gothaer Lebensversicherung is involved in the company.
After a regional planning procedure and an environmental impact assessment had been carried out , the Oldenburg trade supervisory office approved the construction and operation of the wind farm on the basis of the Federal Immission Control Act on October 31, 2008 . The island community of Wangerooge sued the preliminary ruling of November 15, 2007. The action was dismissed as inadmissible due to a lack of legal standing . This judgment became final . An environmental class action brought by the BUND with the support of the WWF was withdrawn after a settlement .
In February 2015, wpd awarded the supply contracts, the offshore construction work began in early May 2016. In August 2016, the first wind turbine was erected.
The last turbines were installed in December 2016. The planned commissioning of the wind farm for the end of 2016 was delayed because the manufacturer of the transformer platform had filed for bankruptcy. Commissioning finally took place on October 31, 2017.
Wind turbines
Eighteen Senvion 6.2M126 wind turbines were built, each with a rotor diameter of 126 meters and a nominal output of 6.15 MW . The total output of all systems is 110.7 MW.
Network connection and delay
The 18 wind turbines are connected by medium voltage cables to a transformer platform in the wind farm, which transforms the electricity to a high voltage of 155 kV. From there, the electricity is fed to the Inhausen substation (north of Wilhelmshaven ) via a 32 km long external connection (28 km of which are submarine cables and 4 km of underground cables ) . It is fed into the public power grid of the transmission system operator Tennet TSO . Due to the relatively short distance to the grid connection point of around 28 km, the grid connection can be made using conventional three-phase AC technology. The technically complex installation of a high-voltage direct current transmission (HVDC) was not economically efficient.
The steel construction company BVT Bremen of the Heinrich Rönner Group from Bremerhaven was originally commissioned with the development and construction of the transformer platform . The total investment was around 36 million euros. As a result of cost increases, BVT had to report insolvency. On September 23, 2016, preliminary insolvency proceedings were ordered against BVT's assets. Due to the lack of a transformer platform, the planned commissioning of the fully constructed wind turbines was not possible in 2016. WPD commissioned a consortium of General Electric ( electrical engineering ), Stahlbau Nord (steel construction, formerly BVT) and Muehlhan (coating) to complete the transformer platform . The transformer platform was finally erected in September 2017.
