history

Bodo Wilkens and Günter Lammers founded Energiekontor Windkraft GmbH in 1990 on the basis of the Electricity Feed Act that came into force in 1991, a forerunner of the Renewable Energy Sources Act . The company set up its first wind farms in 1994 in Misselwarden and Wremen- Grauwallkanal. In 1995 Energiekontor founded subsidiaries in Portugal and Greece. In 1999 the company expanded to Great Britain, and the 100th facility was built. In 2000 the company went public as Energiekontor AG and applied for an offshore location 50 km northwest of the island of Borkum . A year later Energiekontor built its first foreign wind farm in Greece (Zarax).

On February 25, 2004, the construction and operation of the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund West was approved by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH). In November 2011 Energiekontor sold the rights to this project to the Danish energy company Dong Energy . The regional planning procedure for the second offshore location Nordergrund at the mouth of the Weser was completed in 2003 and approved in 2007. Energiekontor also sold this project, thereby withdrawing from all offshore activities. The buyer in 2013 was the Bremen-based project developer wpd .

Energiekontor has also been developing, realizing and selling solar parks with photovoltaic systems since 2010 . In 2019, so-called Power Purchase Agreements (long-term electricity purchase agreements ) were concluded with energy companies in Germany for the first time , including with EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg for an 85 MW solar park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
