Acantopsis is a genus from the family of loach (Cobitidae). They live in both fresh and brackish water of various fast flowing rivers and streams in Southeast Asia. There they colonize the soil region of the slightly different habitats . Some of them can also be found in flooded rice fields in the region.

These fish feed on mosquito larvae , nematodes , small insect larvae and algae . In captivity, they also eat frozen food, tablet feed and rummage through the ground for algae and other edible foods.

features

The bodies of loaches are eel-like, long and narrow. The lower mouth is equipped with barbels . Most types are grayish to beige in color. The head is narrow and mostly peeps out of the sand or gravel after digging in. The horse loach and the elephant loach are differentiated based on their head shape.
