The Horse Center Stadl-Paura (ÖPZ) is a 200-year-old, listed equestrian center in Stadl-Paura and was once ku k . Stallion depot and federal agency. The focus of the 24 hectare farm is the training of horses , riders and drivers as well as the organization and handling of events, courses, courses, stallion and mare performance tests, disposition tests, tournaments, breeding events such as championships, studbook recordings and licensing of all horse breeds and events outside the Horse area. In 1998 the Stadl-Paura horse center was privatized. The formerly state-owned company has since been run by an operating company (GmbH). Extensive investments were made in 2019 and 2020 in the area (riding arenas, restaurants, course and seminar center) and their maintenance, so that modern infrastructure can also be found in the middle of the historic ambience.

history

The new event center - and former barracks - of the Stadl-Paura Horse Center

The history of the Stadl-Paura Horse Center goes back over 200 years. The oldest buildings in the former kuk stallion depot were built in 1807 for salt shipping along the Traun. At that time, horses pulled the salt ships up the Traun in a so-called “counter-pull”. The stables of the Austro-Hungarian Traunzugregie with the associated administration, Mayr, and blacksmith house were built to accommodate these horses. In 1826 the Imperial and Royal Stallion Depot was founded. The official founding date of the stallion depot is September 17, 1826, although full operation only started in 1827.

Up until World War I, the kuk stallion depot in Stadl-Paura was particularly interested in Noriker, Haflinger, warmblood and thoroughbred breeding. With the collapse of the monarchy in 1918, it was subordinated to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry as the 'Bundeshengstenstallamt Stadl-Paura'. In the following decades, Stadl-Paura was used to breed the Noric draft horse, the heavy warmblood horse, mainly based on Oldenburg, and the Haflinger.

When Austria was annexed to the German Reich in 1938, the Federal Stallion Office was subordinated to the Reich Ministry of Agriculture directly in Berlin as a 'state stud'. The stock of state-owned stallions, some of which were privately cared for, numbered around 560 sires in 1939. In the following years, numerous stallions from Northern Germany and Bavaria were added, most of whom belonged to the Oldenburg breed. The stud services were performed by 135 stud employees until the end of the war. A massive shrinking process in horse breeding resulted in significant cuts in the staff and stallion population in Stadl-Paura. In 1950 the 'new forge' was built. Its establishment represented the last structural intervention in the facility until 1999.

As in Germany, there was a tendency towards sport and leisure horses. The uniform breeding of a suitable riding horse did not exist, however, because the old breeding lines of the once so famous half-blood horses of the Danube Monarchy were, if they still existed, scattered to the wind. One of Stadl-Paura's tasks was to record the old Austrian tribes Furioso, Nonius, Przedswit, Gidran and Shagya and to bring them back to breeding. At the same time, high-quality warmblood stallions were purchased in the FRG.

In 1997 the Federal Institute for Horse Breeding was spun off and sold to the Province of Upper Austria (51%) and the regional association of horse breeders of Upper Austria (49%). On January 1st, 1998 the stallion depot was handed over to the new owners. On March 31, 1998, the 'Horse Center Stadl-Paura GmbH' was founded with the individual state breeding associations as shareholders. The new event hall was opened on October 1, 1999, and the new training stable in 2011. On October 1, 2015, the entire facility was leased to Horse Center Stadl-Paura GmbH with 16 shareholders.
