history

Care began in the Middle Ages, when a leper and leper house already existed here. In 1870 the former FF State Hospital moved from this location to Hüfingen . The complex was acquired by the districts of Villingen and Donaueschingen for 10,000 guilders and supported jointly. On February 1, 1872, the Geisingen district nursing home was opened. In 1872 the care rate was 44 pfennigs a day.

In the years 1881 an institution cemetery was laid out, the first manor was built in 1886, a bakery was added in 1900 and a pigsty in 1903.

The nursing home was a site of " euthanasia " in the Third Reich . Detainees have been forcibly sterilized since 1933. In 1940/41 inmates were brought to the Grafeneck killing center near Münsingen and murdered there. More than 300 people died of starvation and exhaustion at the end of the war.

On the night of August 25th to 26th, 1949, the two utility buildings burned down. A reconstruction and renovation followed. In 1956 the facility was put into operation as Haus Wartenberg. A new nursery followed in 1963, a new administration building in 1966, a new nursing home in 1967, a nurses' home in 1968 and the construction of a new manor, another nursing home in 1976, and the new community house from 1993 to 1994. Another building with 100 beds and 20 staff accommodation was inaugurated on July 13, 1981. In 1986 a vocational school for care for the elderly was attached to the center. In 2000 the Baar II building was opened for younger adults in need of severe care.

The traveling exhibition "Nazi euthanasia crimes - The 'killing facility' 'Grafeneck and the district care facility Geisingen" was shown until April 7, 2017 in the district office in Villingen-Schwenningen . A memorial plaque or the like is missing so far.
