Landmark of Phahurat: the Gurudwara Sri Guru Sing Sabha

Phahurat (Pahurat, Thai พาหุรัด ) is a street (Thanon Phahurat, ถนน พาหุรัด ) and market district (Talat Phahurat, ตลาด พาหุรัด ) for textiles in the Phra Nakhon ( Khet ) district of the capital Bangkok , Thailand .

Thanon Phahurat

Originally, the area was an enclave for Vietnamese refugees during the reign of King Taksin (ruled 1768 to 1782) . 1898 a large fire destroyed the area and cleared the way for a road in memory of the early deceased daughter of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) , Bahurada Manimaya ( Thaiสมเด็จ พระเจ้า ลูกเธอ เจ้าฟ้า พาหุรัด มณี มัย ) Bahulada was named today known as Phahurat.

Many of the residents of Phahurat come from South Asia, primarily India, and trade in textiles. Sikhs settled in the area about a hundred years ago and are still active in the textile trade today. Her temple, the Gurudwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha is a landmark of Phahurat. Hindus and Muslims also settled here .

There are also some unusual markets for Bangkok, such as Sampeng Market, the colonial-style Old Siam Plaza and the new four-story India Emporium.
