Ramón Alberto Villaverde Vázquez (born March 16, 1930 in Montevideo , † September 15, 1986 in Barcelona ) was a Uruguayan football player .

Career

Villaverde began his professional career in his native Uruguay in 1949 at Liverpool Montevideo . After a year, the striker moved to Cúcuta Deportivo . In 1951 he went to CD Los Millonarios , where he played in a team with Alfredo Di Stéfano and was Colombian champion in 1952 and 1953. From 1954 Villaverde played for the first time for a European club, FC Barcelona . He made his debut for Barcelona on September 12, 1954 in the 4-2 victory over FC Sevilla , in which he scored the first goal. In his eleven-year stint at Barça, he won the Spanish championship twice , the trade fair cup and the Spanish cup three times . In total, he scored 53 goals in 162 league games for Barcelona. Villaverde undoubtedly made two of his biggest games in the quarter-finals of the 1959/60 European Cup , where he and his team knocked the English champions Wolverhampton Wanderers out of the tournament. Villaverde scored twice in a 4-0 home win in the first leg and once in the second leg in a 5-2 win at Wolves. He ended his career with Racing Santander .
