The Pharao House , called Pharao for short by the locals , is a pyramid-shaped terrace residential building in Munich . The architect of the “pyramid high-rise ” built in the style of brutalism was Karl Helmut Bayer . The building dates from 1974.
location
The Pharaoh House is located in Munich's Oberföhring district in the corner between Effnerstrasse and Cosimastrasse. The postal address is Fritz-Meyer-Weg 55, 81925 Munich.
description
The building, erected in 1974, contains 400 apartments. It consists of three wings arranged at right angles to each other with a triangular outline. The largest wing extends over an area of about 20 × 80 meters to the southwest and has 18 floors . The wing pointing to the northeast has 14 floors and a floor area of about 20 × 60 meters, the wing pointing northwest has 10 floors and a floor space of about 20 × 50 meters. To the south-east, instead of a fourth wing, a large low-rise building extends about 40 × 70 meters with a shop center and several restaurants.
The apartments on the wing sides are all equipped with large, continuous balconies , while the apartments on the stepped front sides of the three wings each have a large terrace in the form of a roof terrace .
From a distance the building looks like an Egyptian pyramid , which is where it got its name. The Fuchsbau in Munich- Schwabing has a three-wing structure similar to that of the Pharaoh House, although it is considerably smaller.
