The Phare de l'Armandèche is a lighthouse on the French Atlantic coast in the Vendée department . It is located in the La Chaume district of the seaside resort of Les Sables-d'Olonne .
history
The Phare de l'Armandèche , currently the last large lighthouse in France, was built in 1968/69 according to plans by the architect Maurice Durand and replaced the Phare de La Chaume from the mid-19th century .
In 2012 the tower was declared a monument historique .
Building
The hexagonal, tapering tower, including the lantern and the hexagonal base, reaches a height of 39 meters. The 35 meter high tower shaft is plastered white with vertical bands of glass blocks. The lantern is painted red. The tower was electrified and automated from the start.
