The Pharmaton SA , based in Bioggio is an internationally active Swiss pharmaceutical company . Its core activity is the research, development and manufacture of vitamin and mineral preparations as well as phytopharmaceuticals such as ginseng , ginkgo , valerian and nettle preparations .
Pharmaton was founded in 1942 and entered the field of phytomedicine in the early 1960s . The company has around 200 employees and an annual turnover of around 150 million euros.
Pharmaton SA has been part of the German Boehringer-Ingelheim Group since 1991 , where it is incorporated as an independent subsidiary in the Consumer Health Care division. An agreement of intent concluded in August 2006 with the US company Ideasphere Inc. for the sale of Pharmaton SA was not executed and was canceled in February 2007.
At the end of June 2016, Sanofi and Boehringer Ingelheim announced the exchange of the BI self-medication and Sanofi animal health divisions. Pharmaton has been part of sanofi-aventis Schweiz AG since January 1, 2017.
