Phegeus (son of Dares)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Phegeus ( Greek  Φηγεύς ) is in Greek mythology a son of Dares , a priest of Hephaestus in Troy , and brother of Idaios . The brothers are participants in the Trojan War .

In the war chariot the brothers storm against the Greeks and Phegeus is the first to throw his lance at Diomedes , the son of Tydeus , but misses him. Des Diomedes lance, however, hits its target: hit in the chest, Phegeus falls dead from the car. Idaios then flees with the help of Hephaestus, who does not want to see both sons of his aged priest taken.

In astronomy the trailing Jupiter Trojan (30704) Phegeus bears his name.
